Knee-wall storage

Most loft rooms have a low wall along each side with the roof sloping down to meet it. This piece stands against that wall, its sides cut to the angle of your roof, with a flat top at the front. No triangle of dead space behind it.

Made for eaves and lofts and bedrooms.

Fitted or freestanding

Built in.

Fitted: give us the opening, wall to wall. We make the piece to slide in and send infill panels to close the gaps, so it looks built in.

50 mmFor a fitted piece, give us the opening: we take 50mm off so it slides in, and send infill panels to close the gap. Freestanding pieces are made to exactly the size you give us.
Measuring for this piece

Measure in millimetres, in three places.

Give us the smallest of each. Walls are rarely straight, and the piece has to fit the tightest point.

How to measure for this piece

How to measure

Measuring for your knee-wall storage

The golden rules

  • Measure in millimetres. Every size on our site is in mm, so there's nothing to convert.
  • Measure every gap in three places. Top, middle and bottom for a width; left, middle and right for a height. Walls are rarely straight.
  • Give us the smallest. Your piece has to fit the tightest point.
  • Look for things in the way. Skirting boards, sockets, switches, pipes and picture rails. Note how far they stick out and how high they are.
  • The sizes are yours. We make it to the measurements you give us, so measure twice.
50 mmFor a fitted piece, give us the opening: we take 50mm off so it slides in, and send infill panels to close the gap. Freestanding pieces are made to exactly the size you give us.

What to measure

  1. WidthAlong the knee wall, at floor level, at both ends and the middle.
  2. Knee wall heightFloor to where the sloping ceiling meets the knee wall.
  3. DepthFrom the knee wall out into the room, to where you want the front of the piece.
  4. Height at the frontFloor to the sloping ceiling, straight up from where the front will be.

Build it

An afternoon, not a weekend.

The instructions are made for your exact piece, not a generic leaflet, and every panel is labelled to match. You'll need a drill, a screwdriver and a spirit level.

Everything is built standing up, so nothing needs lifting over your head, and tall pieces fix to the wall with the fixings in the box.

Our promise

Made to measure, without the worry.

More on our promise

Nothing cut until you confirm

You sign off a full specification of your design before we cut a thing. We look over every design too, and get in touch if something looks off.

Built-in allowance

50mm of tolerance on fitted pieces, for walls that aren't quite square. Freestanding pieces are made to your exact measurements.

Questions

About the knee-wall storage.

Something else? All FAQs or ask us.

What is a knee wall?

The short upright wall in a loft room where the sloping ceiling comes down to meet the floor, usually between 60cm and 1.2m high.

How do you get the angle right?

You measure the height at the front, the height at the knee wall and the depth between them. We work the angle out from those.

Can I use the space behind the knee wall?

Not with this piece. It stands in the room, in front of the wall.

Is it hard to build?

If you've built flatpack before, you can build this. Every panel is labelled, and the build guide is made for your exact piece.

Can I see the colours first?

Yes. Our sample pack has our colours and a cut edge, so you can see them in your own light before you order.
